PEARLIES - A film by Marcus Hessenberg - Meet George Major, the Pearly King of PeckhamGeorge Major is the Pearly King of Peckham, a heritage passed through his mother's lineage. Pearly Kings and Queens are a tradition started in Victorian London by Henry Croft, a Costermonger working the markets in the dirt poor East End of the city. He added pearls to his suit and collected to look after the local community. The tradition caught on and families of Pearly Kings and Queens started throughout London. Most British people recognise the suits but know little of the reason and the meaning and George has longed to educate the public and make sure his culture does not die out. He is now creating a museum in South East London where he hopes to bring schools and the curious to learn about the poverty that helped to build this tradition. Here he talks about his own family traumas including the abuse at the hand of his father and maiden aunt, the death of his Pearly Queen and the cowboys that now dress in a Pearly whistle and suit but pocket the money.Learn about Cockney Slang and Cockney culture in this documentary and discover George's insights in to life.
WURLITZER - A short film by Marcus HessenbergWurlitzer, filmed at the Troxy Theatre in the East End of London. The Wurlitzer is a beautiful theatre organ that was once in cinemas up and down Britain. Now, the instruments are a rarity. Thanks to the Cinema Organ Society, I was able to film Phil Kelsall, a professional player from Blackpool and interview his experiences with the instrument. The Wurlitzer is an organ which playes from the sides of the building and is linked to all sorts of authentic sounds - from a real piano to whistles and sirens. There are now very few of these beautiful machines left in the country, espcially with in theatres. You can see more from The Cinema Organ Society and go see the instrument in real life at their events at https://www.cinema-organs.org.uk/Directed, Filmed and Edited by Marcus Hessenberg.See more at www.hessenbergproducstions.com

My Vitiligo is Disappearing - But I Don't Want It To | BORN DIFFERENTAN ASPIRING model whose vitiligo is slowly fading hopes that it never disappears. Bashir Aziz, from Tooting, London, was born with vitiligo, a skin disorder characterised by small, white patches on various parts of the body caused by the loss of natural pigment. Growing up, Bashir’s body, face and head and even his hair was covered in white patches. The 23-year-old told Barcroft TV: "My vitiligo is different because with everyone else they start off fully pigmented or fully with their color that they are supposed to have. “In my case it’s different because I started off with vitiligo. “On my skin itself, it’s affected down the middle - and my hair as well, it can affect your hair and some people don’t know that.” Since he was a child Bashir has gone to doctors and dermatologists to find a treatment for his vitiligo. As there is no known cure for vitiligo, being different is all Bashir has ever known. But over the years, the diversity activist noticed a change in his skin. He explained: “I was born with vitiligo, like say 80 percent on my body, but now my skin pigments over the years just come back to life. "So now it’s like 40 percent or 50 percent now.”Follow Bashir on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bxsqui Video Credits:Videographer / director: Marcus HessenbergProducer: Shannon Lane, Ruby CooteEditor: Josh Halil

I Quit The City To Build My Hobbit House | HOMES ON THE EDGE GOING off-grid is something many dream of, but one former Londoner has actually followed through on his dream of living in a self-built house in the woods. Kris Harbour, 31, gave up his job, house, a flat he owned, and a busy social life to move onto a plot of land in the welsh countryside, which he bought on Ebay. Once there, using recycled, natural, and found materials, he began building his own round cobwood house from scratch, in which he now lives full-time. Kris told Barcroft Media: “The idea of working for two thirds of your life and having very little time to socialise and do hobbies, it just doesn’t sit right. Kris documents his project on his YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5rT... Mother Donates Organs To Save Her Son's Life | BORN DIFFERENTA SELFLESS mum risked her life by bravely undergoing a double organ donation for her four-year-old son. Sarah Lamont, from Ballymena, Northern Ireland has donated one of her kidneys to her youngest child, Joe, mere months after surgeons removed a section of her liver to save the boy’s life. Joe’s diseased kidneys were removed when he was just a few days old, and he has been on dialysis ever since. But Sarah’s second incredible gift to her son means Joe might, for the first time, live a life free of almost daily hospital visits and procedures, and be able to go to school.Video Credits: Videographer / director: Marcus Hessenberg Producer: Sophia Rahman, James Thorne Editor: Marcus Cooper Barcroft TV: https://www.youtube.com/user/barcroft... I'm Becoming A Genderless Monster | HOOKED ON THE LOOKA YOUNG PERSON from London dresses like a genderless monster, and says they ‘don’t mind people being scared’ of them. Jazmin Bean has been into alternative fashion since becoming a teenager. Jazmin’s look revolves around extreme contact lenses, eerie doll-like makeup and sinister props. Jazmin, who is agender and prefers the pronoun ‘they’, also wears a binder to give the appearance of a flat chest. Jazmin is currently working on making their own makeup brand for those also in the alternative community. The Londoner dresses as their mythological persona most of the time, but sometimes they have to tone down their look due to harassment. Fortunately Jazmin has supportive friends and family who love their look.
